Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s most recent collaboration “Senorita” may only have managed to spend one week atop the Hot 100 (at least so far—it’s currently stationary at No. 2), but it is still growing in popularity on a number of other charts. This week, the track rises to the top spot on a genre-specific list, and by doing so, it helps one of the musicians behind the successful cut make history.
“Senorita” is Mendes’ sixth No. 1 on the Adult Pop Songs chart, which ranks the “week’s most popular adult top 40 songs, ranked by adult pop airplay detections as measured by Nielsen Music,” according to Billboard itself. The tune lifts from the runner-up spot, taking over for Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved,” which ruled for a pair of frames.
With half a dozen leaders now to his credit, Mendes moves up on the ranking of the artists with the most No. 1 hits on the Adult Pop Songs chart, and he’s in impressive company. According to Billboard, Mendes is now in fifth place among all artists when it comes to the most chart-toppers.
Leading the way when all artists are included is Maroon 5, who established themselves as adult pop favorites a long time ago. The pop band has claimed a lucky 13 No. 1s, putting them safely in first. Behind Maroon 5 comes Pink with 10, Katy Perry with eight and Taylor Swift with seven such wins.
Before this week, Mendes was tied with Ed Sheeran, Adele and Nickelback, all of whom have accrued five No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Adult Pop Songs tally. Now he’s moved ahead of all of them, though both Sheeran and Adele could easily snag another leader at some point in the not too distant future.
Mendes first hit No. 1 in 2016 with his breakout smash “Stitches,” and he quickly followed that up later that year with “Treat You Better.” He’s landed at least one driver every year since, including “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” (2017), “In My Blood” (2018) and “If I Can’t Have You” (earlier this year).
